Over 360,000 requests for registration of voters in diaspora, about 3000 denied

The Central Election Commission has indicated that the voter registration process outside Kosovo is continuing for the 7 June elections, while diaspora interest remains high since the 6 May opening of applications.

CEC spokesman Valmir Elezi has stated that by May 10th, at 10:00 p.m., a total of 36,154 voter registration requirements have been accepted through the electronic platform abroad.

According to him, 25,376 applications have been approved so far, 2,961 have been rejected, while another 7,797 remain pending review.

“From the approved applications, 6,280 citizens have registered for physical voting in diplomatic representation, 701 for sending the ballot package to the CEC mailbox in Kosovo, while 18,395 have chosen to send the ballot to post boxes outside Kosovo”, Elez has announced.

Before the census is launched, the CEC has approved the list of polling stations in diplomatic representation and has determined the maximum number of voters that can be registered for physical voting abroad.

Under the election institution's decision, the vote will be organised at 48 diplomatic representations, in 33 embassies and 15 consulates respectively, with a total of 70 seats. The maximum number of voters who can register for physical voting is 66,450.

The CEC has clarified that this restriction applies only to physical voting in diplomatic representation, while voter registration through post office remains without the numeric limit. If maximum capacity is met in a diplomatic representation, applicants will be directed to other forms of mail voting.

Meanwhile, following experience from recent elections, the CEC has also set new criteria for organising physical voting abroad. A diplomatic representation should have at least 50 registered voters to organise the physical voting process.

If the number of records remains below this threshold, the physical vote will not be held on that diplomatic representation, and voters will automatically pass on the voter list by mail, which the CEC will announce.

The election institution has also indicated that, as in the last local and parliamentary elections, voters registered for the vote by mail would be sent ballot packages to their addresses.

The diplomatic representation vote will be held on June 6th 2026, a day before the elections in Kosovo. The voting process will take place between 7:00 and 7:00, according to the local time of the respective state.

While voting through the post will begin on May 25th and last until June 6th.
