Iranians negotiating with the United States have been offered a limited amnesty, Yingst said, citing Trump. If they fail to reach an agreement with the U.S., Trump told reporters they would seize Iranian oil, a step Trump had said earlier that Americans might not have the patience to accept.
Yingst said Trump has told him Iranians were trying to postpone the negotiations deadline for the agreement, which, according to him, sparked the attack on the bridge last week. He added that Trump has also said there is a good “chance of an agreement by Monday's deadline, even though there have been no public signals from Iranian officials that an agreement is close.
Trump had earlier given Iran the 6 April deadline to reach an agreement or face attacks on critical infrastructure, following the extension of an earlier 10-day deadline.
