The US were one of the founding members of NATO when it was established in 1949.
Trump has repeatedly criticised NATO members during the Iran war for failing to provide sufficient military support to Washington.
Asked about Trump's interview with Telegraph at a news conference in Downing Street now, Keir Starmer said: “NATO is the most effective military alliance the world has ever seen”.
“has kept us safe for many decades and we are fully committed to NATO”, the British prime minister added.
Starmer stressed that “despite pressure” on it and other national leaders, it would put “national interest” first and keep the United Kingdom out of the war. /Telegraphy/
