Meanwhile, a spokesman for NATO for the Reuters agency has said it is a long-planned visit.
However, the visit comes at a moment of tension, as US President Donald Trump has sharply criticised European allies for their positions regarding the war in Iran and has threatened with US withdrawal from the military alliance.
On Wednesday, Trump has continued the criticism of Great Britain, France and several other NATO allies, calling it a “tric player of paper”.
“We have had some very weak allies in NATO,” has declared Trump.
“I hope we never need them. I don't think we're gonna need”.
