Kosovo's extraordinary Assembly session, called today to address an issue of direct impact on the lives of citizens such as rising oil prices and the cost of living, was marked by lack of institutional responsibility. This caused the session, among the few that the Parliament has recently conducted, to develop without the seriousness of demanding a debate on such issues of public interest.
The nonparticipation of a considerable portion of MPs from both position and opposition makes it clear that the Assembly is losing its weight as a country where citizens' problems are actually addressed, as well as without real decision-making substance.
At the same time, the use of non-parliamentary language, the ongoing interventions and interruptions of the discussions of MPs and members of the government cabinet reflect a degradation of the standards of debate and a lack of respect for the institution. This approach not only undermines the functioning of the Assembly but also relates topics that have a direct bearing on the welfare and economic stability of citizens.
