Parliament issues with announcement after failure of presidential election

At the opening of the session, the Speaker of the Parliament once again recalled constitutional and procedural conditions for electing the president, referring to the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, the Parliament's Rule, the Constitutional Court's judgments, including the verdict in the Ko29/11 case, as well as the opinion of the Venice Commission and other relevant documents related to MPs' participation in the process.
She repeated several times the call to MPs who were not present in the hall, especially those from the opposition parliamentary groups, to return and participate in the vote, stressing that their absence was not justified with permission from the Parliament Speaker.
Under these circumstances, the chairman interrupted the session three times during the day. In the final run, around 11 o'clock, she reiterated the call for participation, demanding that MPs put political differences aside and participate in the process.
During the session, Finance Minister Iron Murati spoke of the possible economic consequences of moving to new elections, citing additional costs and losses that, according to him, would be caused by the country.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Albin Kurti recalled the bids given to opposition parties to enable the election of the president, stressing that the country already has a possible solution, but according to him is lacking the opposition's co-operation to concreteise it. He also mentioned Feride Rushiti's candidacy, thanking her for her willingness as a representative of civil society.
Kurti accused opposition subjects of not showing political responsibility, while stressing that decision-making for the future belongs to Kosovo citizens.
On the eve of the constitutional deadline for electing the president, the Speaker of the Assembly said this session marked the conclusion of the current process and of this legislature, adding that, according to the Constitutional Court Act, the Assembly is considered disbanded and the new elections will be announced within the constitutional terms.
