Gattuso and FIGC have interrupted their agreement with full understanding, the statement released Friday said.
Gattuso had replaced Luciano Spalletti in June 2025 and debuted as the new coach of “Azaturs” in September 2025, with a convincing 5-0 victory over Estonia.
FIGC thanked Gattuson and his staff for “dedication and passion” that showed over the past nine months, congratulating them “success in continuing career”.
Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup for the third time in a row Tuesday evening, after losing the play-off final to Bosnia and Herzegovina after penalty.
FIGC President Gabriele Gravina also resigned after the elimination of Italy, as did delegation chief Gigi Buffon.
Italy has two friendly matches planned in June, but it is impossible to appoint a new coach by then, since the new FIGC president is expected to be elected in June.
