Judiciary Council Leader Unelected, Competition Re-opened

The competition for chairmanship of the Kosovo Judiciary Council has been reopened. This is after the two candidates for this position, Besnik Bislimaj and Rrustem Thaqi in two rounds of voting have received the same number of votes.
Deputy Prime Minister Arijeta Sadiku has said that conforming regulation, the administration is obliged to reopen the competition.
“Since none of the candidates have received the necessary votes, so conform to the restalment competition regulations. The administration is obliged to vote reopen the” competition, she has said.
Bislimaj's Thaqi has received five votes, at two times in the vote, where one of the members has voted two candidates -- considered invalid.
Before this meeting, in the absence of quorum, three times in a row has failed to hold the meeting for the selection of the KDR chairman.
Currently, the council has nine members, as far as the quorum is concerned.
The KDR, according to the Constitution, is meant to have 13 members. Currently there are nine, meanwhile, for another three, the selection process in the Kosovo Assembly is under way, while for a member of the judiciary ranks, by the Supreme Court, respectively, the selection process has taken to the court.
In March of this year, the Judiciary Council announced a competition for the new leader.
The chairman of the Judiciary Council has been Supreme Judge Albert Zogaj, who has completed his mandate on 9 March.
