“Ignore the North Mitrovica assembly, Elshani: We have a legal obligation to report

He was invited to report to the Municipal Assembly in North Mitrovica on March 27, 2026. But, the spokesperson for Regional Justice in Northern Mitrovica says he did not respond positively to this invitation since he has no legal obligation.

Elshani tells Kosovo that the Police's legal obligation is to report only to the Community Security Council (KKSB), an organ formed by the mayor and operates on the administrative guidelines of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

And we have no legal obligation to report to municipal congregations everywhere in Kosovo. We invite the report, we do the reporting, but we have no obligation to report before the municipal assembly. We have had invitations from Leposaviqi initially, from Zubin Potoku, Northern Mitrovica, but we will not report at the request of the Municipal Assembly. Every time the mayors call us, the station commanders go and talk to them PKKSB, which we owe to report”, says Elshani.

The Northern Mitrovica Municipal Assembly has invited the North Mitrovica police station commander to report the security situation in this municipality to the fourth regular meeting held on March 27, 2026.

However, his indifference at this session has sparked fierce debate among local political representatives, who have expressed conflicting positions on legal obligations and institutional co-operation.
