One of the sources said Hegseth wants someone in this role that will implement the vision of President Trump and Hegseth for the Army, Telegrafi conveys.
A senior defence department official told CBS News: “we are grateful for his service, but it was time for a change of leadership in Army”.
George previously served as the secretary of defence's top military assistant, Lloyd Austin, from 2021-22, during the Biden administration after decades of service.
A career infantry officer and graduate of West Point, George served for the first time in the Gulf War and in the recent conflicts of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Army Chief of Staff usually serves a four-year term.
George was nominated for this position by President Joe Biden and confirmed by the Senate in 2023, which means he would have usually held that position until 2027.
The current deputy chief of Army Staff, General Christopher Launden, who was formerly Hegseth's military assistant, will likely be considered a replacement.
He previously served as commander general of the 82nd Army Air Division from 2022 to 2023.
As the medium further points out, Hegseth has fired over a dozen top military officers. /Periscope
