Despite Kosovo's Constitutional Court has set a deadline for electing the country's president, political parties have not yet reached a concrete agreement on the issue.

Vetevendosje Movement MP Artan Abrashi has declared that his subject does not have the numbers to elect as the only president of Kosovo, stressing that resolving this issue requires agreements with opposition parties.

Abrashi said that LVV cannot elect the president himself, adding that their will to find a compromise exists.

The “Yes, already with the annulment of the decree, which has attempted to disseminate the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, has already returned to the normal flow of functioning of the Assembly. The head of the Assembly has already scheduled the regular session, which will be held Thursday, means the day after tomorrow. Within that session are regular points, in this case there are several international agreements, which we have already to vote on as the Kosovo Assembly. As for the President's case, of course this issue remains open. As Vetevendosje, I'm saying once again, we have the will and willingness to find a compromise on this issue, because the result from the last elections has given us the opportunity to perform the constitution of the Parliament and Government, but not to choose for ourselves”, he said.

Abrashi says the opposition is holding the president's election issue hostage.

So, what I'm saying is that we are obliged to sit down and discuss with opposition parties, which unfortunately for their reasons are holding the issue of electing the president of Kosovo hostage. Therefore, all this will depend on during the meetings we will have in the days ahead with opposition party representatives and I wish they would reflect positively and Kosovo will overcome this unnecessary crisis, which is at risk of leading us to the elections, still saying unnecessary”, Abrashi said.

As for Prime Minister Albin Kurti's warnings of invitations to opposition parties, Abrashi said they are open to names of new candidates for president.

“are open themes, anything is possible. We don't have any position so insistent. Of course, we would like our proposals to be taken into account, but we should also listen to what they once say. So far, we have not seen constructive will, unfortunately, to overcome this crisis by opposition parties, but we hope that this issue will change in these days and that they will positively reflect”, he stressed.

He added that it is early to talk about concrete positions regarding possible names for president that the PDK has said the candidate must be from this subject.

“Yes, it is early to discuss this matter, since no appointments have occurred. These discussions will take place at the moment when representatives of the two subjects meet and then, in line with these meetings, we will see how this will reflect on the respective parliamentary groups that we have, namely, as MPs. But what I can say is that we are willing to sit down, discuss and find a solution. This is what belongs to our side as Vetevendosje”, he points.

According to him, the Vetevendosje Movement has already proposed concrete names, but no support from other parties.

We already have names, we proposed them. So there are names that have credibility and strong support from the Parliamentary Group of Vetevendosje Movement. So, Mr. Konjufca and Mrs. Mulhaja have our support, but all we need to do is support other subjects, which unfortunately we don't have at the moment. But again, I'm saying, it's early to prejudge how the flow will go, because all of this depends on the positions of opposition parties”, he says further.

The Constitutional Court has given Kosovo lawmakers some time over a month to elect the country's new president after it overturned a decree by the current president, Vjosa Osmani, on March 25th for the distribution of the Assembly after the president's election at a session on March 5th.

The decree, according to the Constitutional Court, has no legal effect. From the Kosovo presidency, they welcomed the decision and said it has been found that Osman has not committed constitutional violations.

The Constitutional Court published the full conviction regarding Osman's decree issued on March 6th, deciding that if within 34 days, since the act of law has entered into force, MPs do not elect the president, the Parliament is distributed.

According to the decision, after the distribution '%ex transitione '% (included automatically under the Constitution) of the legislature, Kosovo must hold new elections within 45 days. /Exaonline
