This information was confirmed for Gazeta Express, CEC spokesman Valmir Elezi.
After announcing June 7, 2026 for holding early elections for the Kosovo Assembly, it can confirm that during tomorrow's (April 1, May 1, 2026), The CEC will hold meetings to make the first decisions in order to organise these elections”, Elez said.
Regarding the new elections, Elesi said that “because these are early elections, their organisation is made with short deadlines and one of the CEC's first decisions for this election process will be to cut election timelines or adjust them according to the need and in line with the circumstances. The General Election Law gives the CEC the right to adjust to the available CEC days for organising these elections”.
On the other hand, he added that “with the task plan, the CEC regulates issues on which the entire electoral process is built and dealing with voters, political subjects and observers. So here is the deadline for political parties to form coalitions and declare no participation in elections; the deadline for political subjects to certified and hand over the candid list of deputies; and the period of election campaign. Also, by means of this plan, the CEC sets the time for voter registration outside Kosovo, voting through mail and diplomatic representation, as well as registering voters with special needs. Part of this plan is the setting of deadlines for accrediting observers and media”.
He said the CEC will also approve planning the budget needed for organising early elections for the Kosovo Assembly.
“Viti 2026 is not an election year, and that means that in the annual budget of the CEC shared with the budget law, there are no means planned for early elections. Under such circumstances, as it was done in the past, The CEC addresses the Government of Kosovo at the request for tools needed for covering the expenses”, Elez concluded.
According to what has been said publicly, the new elections are expected to cost Kosovo 10m euros. /Periscope
