At this stage, prior to the announcement of the election date, the CEC is focused on handling the initial and urgent issues related to organising early elections.
CEC spokesman Valmir Elezi has told the Online Economy of the current commitment of the CEC, while awaiting the decision to issue the official election date. It has also shown that all election activities, including the election campaign, will be organised under short deadlines, broadcast Periscope.
The Central Election Commission has already launched the preparation phase of the election process, engaging in handling all initial and urgent issues related to organising early elections and being approved at the first meeting after the decision to set the election date. These preparations include planning election activities, determining the deadlines, budget planning, and co-ordinating with relevant institutions”, Elesi said.
Furthermore, Elez has indicated that since these are early elections, one of the first CEC decisions will be to change the timings of electoral activities that directly connect with voters, political subjects and observers.
“After these are early elections, under the Law for the General Elections, their organisation is made with short deadlines and one of the CEC's first decisions for this election process will be to change the timings of electoral activities or adjust them according to the need, in accordance with the circumstances and time available to the CEC. All election activities involving voters, political subjects and observers will be held in a short time. In this direction, the CEC will set a deadline for political parties to form coalitions and declare no participation in elections; a deadline for political subjects to certified and hand over the list of candidates' candidates; and an election campaign period. Likewise, the CEC sets the time for registering voters outside Kosovo, voting through mail and diplomatic representation, as well as registering voters with special needs. Part of that plan is the setting of deadlines for accrediting observers and media”, Elez said.
Elez has indicated that among the election activities to be organised in the short term will be the election campaign for political subjects.
Because these are early elections, the election campaign period is shorter compared to regular elections, due to limited time deadlines. In the last early elections, the election campaign has lasted 11 days and 7 hours, while in the next election, The CEC will determine its duration in line with the general timeline available to the CEC for organising the entire election process”, Elez announced.
On Wednesday, CEC chairman Kreshnik Radoniqi has met with President Albulen Haxhiu's task adviser. Radoniqi after the meeting has said the CEC as the date of the elections prefers June 7th.
