The director of the Kosovo Commission Association, Saban Ibrahimi, has said that during January 2026 alone, Kosovo municipalities have been taken over 31.6m euros from the execution of judicial decisions -- a blow that, according to him, directly to local finance and normal functioning of local government.
This is no longer technical issues but is the financial crisis caused by the lack of government action. The numbers are alarming and clearly indicate the size of this collapse. Prizren over 12.3m euros, Ferizaj over 7.3m euros, Rahoveci over 2.8m euros, Vushtrria over 2m euros, as well as municipalities like Pristina, Decani, Vitita, Gjakova are being hit hard”, he said, broadcast Klanosova.
So, therefore, as he says, the first two municipalities constitute over 60% of the total, which he says, a clear indication of an unbalanized and unfair system.
This trend is not random but is a direct result of collective accounts signed without financial coverage, central decisions without analysis of the influence in municipalities, and a total lack of government intervention to stop this financial bleeding”, he said.
If this continues, according to Ibrahimi, capital investments will be halted, basic services will be jeopardised, citizen subsidies will disappear, and municipalities will enter a full financial collapse.
“communs cannot and should not bear the burden of decisions taken at the central level. This is unacceptable. In the name of Kosovo municipalities, we seek: urgent intervention of the Government, immediate solutions to the coverage of obligations from the central level, and the halting of this practice that is financially destroying local power”, Ibrahim said.
