In an interview for Euronews Albania, Abbott said the vast majority of Albanians in the United Kingdom live normally, work and contribute to the economy, raising families and being part of British society.

However, he acknowledged that there is another reality, which authorities, according to him, cannot ignore.

The Macedonian Albanians are the largest group of foreigners convicted in UK prisons. This is a fact that cannot be ignored,” declared Abbott, adding that this should not be used to demonise an entire community.

British diplomat stressed that organised crime in Europe is not linked to a single nationality, but to various criminal groups operating in different countries.

He mentioned that Albanian criminal groups are involved in drug trafficking, including cocaine and cannabis, in the United Kingdom and other European countries, but underlined that other groups from different states are active in this area.
