Today, 27 years are the massacre of Lübeniq, one of the most serious crimes committed during the war in Kosovo.
On April 1, 1999, in the early hours of the morning, Serbian paramilitary forces, led by the group known as “Cayt”, surrounded the village of Lübeniq in Pec. After entering the village, they assembled residents in the center and separated men from women.
Then, inhumanity, over 80 civilians were executed, among them men, women, and children. This massacre is seen as an act of genocide against the Albanian civilian population.
Among the victims were three minors: Muhamet Ukshinaj (18 months), Leonard Alimej (7) and Fatmir Alimej (17), who was disabled physically. They still figure among missing persons.
And among the victims was Shyhrete Ukshiaj, a pregnant woman who continues to figure and disappear today.
Lybenic's massacre remains one of the most secular events committed during the war in Kosovo, while victims' families continue to seek justice and the complete dawn of the fate of the missing.
