The EU's Emisari for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Peter Sorensen, has been hosted at NATO headquarters by NATO Deputy General Secretary Radmila Sekerinska.
According to a communique issued by NATO, Sekerinska reiterated NATO's strong “commitment to the Western Balkans -- a region of strategic importance for the Alliance.
She stressed the partnership between NATO and the EU in preserving peace and stability in Kosovo and beyond.
Through KFOR mission, she said “NATO continues to do what is militarily possible on the ground to protect peace, for the good of all people living in Kosovo. But the ultimate solution for sustainable regional stability is political”.
To this end, NATO continues to fully support the EU-led dialogue for normalising relations between Belgrade and Pristina and the efforts of Special Representative Sorensen”.
Sekerinska also stressed the excellent “level of” co-operation between NATO and the EU. She stressed that continued co-ordination will be the key to advancing the EU-led dialogue and that allies have agreed to boost their support for EU-led normalisation efforts.
Ambassador Sorensen also attended a North Atlantic Council meeting, including NATO partners contributing personnel to KFOR, it is said in the communique.
“KFOR contributes to maintaining a safe environment for all people and communities living in Kosovo and freedom of movement, in co-ordination with the Kosovo Police and the EU's mission for Rule of Law (EULEX), in their respective roles as security responders”.
