The EU in response to the Express has also called on politicians to engage in a cosntistic manner with the media.
“Freedom of expression and media freedom are essential elements of democratic societies and fundamental rights, as predicted by the EU acquis and international standards.
Public authorities and political actors have a special responsibility to promote a safe and favourable environment for journalists and media practitioners and to contribute to a respectable public record.
The EU calls on all political actors to engage constructively with the media.”, a European Commission spokeswoman has said.
