Austrian newspaper “Chrone” reported from the scene, bringing details about how the accident occurred.
Around 2: 00 p.m., tragedy occurred in the inner courtyard of a multiparty building in Porzellangas. During concrete works within the upper floor expansion, the structure suddenly failed: scaffolds and concrete forms collapsed as five workers were on it.
According to firefighters, the newly sworn-in structure collapsed suddenly, taking workers to the abyss with them. Beton and other construction parts covered them below.
“The workers on the facility fell along with the scaffold,” said fire spokesman Martin Hoffmaner.
A resident becomes a witness to the disaster

Eyewitnesses relate the dramatic event. It was an extremely powerful noise, then I heard only the workers screaming out loud. Then the sirens began to echo”, relates a resident who saw the accident closely.
Just minutes after the collapse, firefighters, police and rescue teams arrived at the scene. However, the magnitude of the tragedy could not yet be clear.
More than 100 emergency workers faced a field of extremely dangerous ruins.
The unstable parts of construction, dust, and concrete made salvation very difficult. In some cases, rescuers had to dig with their hands to reach people covered by the ruins, broadcast thegraphy
First Hope and Total Tragedy
A hope was initially shown: a 45-year-old was saved after about 90 minutes, but was seriously injured. He had serious head injuries, broken hands, and serious spinal damage. He was immediately sent to a hospital emergency room, according to Daniel Melcher's statement from Berufsretung Wien.
For others, any assistance came too late -- the four construction workers remained covered by concrete measures and died at the scene.
A Winch operator witnessed the tragedy. He had to stay in his cabin and follow the events from the height, and then was interviewed by the police until the evening hours.
The reason for the surprise failure of the structure remains unclear. Police and labour inspectors are conducting intensive investigations, calling for numerous witnesses to be questioned, including the Vance operator.
