The White House says Iran would be wise to reach an agreement while the United States increases military presence.

The White House has warned that Iran would be a very wise “to make an agreement with the US, amid reports that President Donald Trump is considering new military actions against the Islamic Republic. Press Secretary Caroline Leavyt said at a press conference that Trump still hoped for a diplomatic solution on Tehran's nuclear programme, Television broadcasts.

Her comments come as the US moves a second battleship into the region and a day after progress was reported in US-Iran talks in Switzerland.

American media reported on Wednesday that Trump had discussed the options of attacking with advisers, and that an American attack could occur as of Saturday. Last summer the US Army launched attacks on three Iranian nuclear facilities.

Trump had not yet made a final decision on whether to attack, and the ongoing discussions were described as running, sources told CBS News.

Leavet told reporters Wednesday that there were “many reasons and arguments that could be given for an attack on Iran”.

She referred to the US attacks in June, adding: “Iran would be very wise to make an agreement with President Trump and his administration”.

Although no progress had appeared to have emerged from Tuesday's indirect talks in Geneva, both sides indicated there had been steps in the right direction.

Iran said a consensus has been reached with the US on the key roadmap “ ” that will create the framework of efforts to resolve the dispute over Tehran's nuclear programme. Foreign Minister Abbas Arghchi added that work must still be done.

The US said that “has made progress” and Badr Albusaid, Oman's Foreign Minister, who is mediating the talks, said negotiations “ended with good progress” on joint goals and technical issues, reports Telegraph, broadcast Periscope.

Asked about the Geneva negotiations, White House Press Secretary said Washington and Tehran were still very far from” on some key issues.

“I think you heard from the administration and the State Department yesterday that little progress has been made, but we are still very far away on some case”, Leavitt said.

“I believe Iranians are expected to return with some more details in the next two weeks, and thus the president will continue to observe how this” will develop, she added.

Leavitt refused to say whether Israel would be involved in the US decision.

Earlier in the week, Iran said it had reached a consensus with the US on the key roadmap <x0-3x1> to resolve their dispute over Tehran's nuclear programme.

Iran has said it wants to focus discussions on its nuclear programme and possible removal of economic sanctions, while Washington indicated earlier that it wanted Iran's missile development to be part of any talks.

The US and its European allies suspect Iran is moving towards developing a nuclear weapon, something Tehran has always denied. /Periscope
