After nearly three years of trial in the Special Court in The Hague, former Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has concluded his closing statement, denying all charges brought by the prosecution and being acquitted for every point of the indictment.
Thaci launched the declaration by congratulating Kosovo's citizens on the anniversary of independence, while also expressing regret for all victims of war in Kosovo.
In his speech, he recalled the period when he was a student in Switzerland, stressing that there were no plans for taking power. According to him, plans for violence and genocide in Kosovo were drafted by Slobodan Milosevic's regime, which, as Thaci said, had condemned him in absentia, as were other world leaders.
Looking at the massacres against my people in Kosovo, I decided to return to my homeland. I did what each of us would do. I am proud, and I never regret the action made”, he declared.
Thaci stressed that, according to him, there is only one eternal truth: his opponent was only Slobodan Milosevic's regime. He added that his return to Kosovo was not aimed at power, but at fighting for freedom and peace.
