Serbian gendarmerie member sentenced to 12 years, 6 months in prison for war crimes

The Constitutional Court in Pristina has sentenced Serbia's gendarmerie member Srdjan Lazovic to 12 years and six months in prison for war crimes against the civilian population. Lazovic was charged with committing unlawful arrest and detention, deportation, imprisonment and mistreatment along with other members of the Serbian forces, reports KOHAPerscope broadcast.

In Panorc of Malisheva, according to the prosecution, Lazovic in co-ordination has been tortured at the Panorc village school, about 500 Albanian men -- people of Panorci -- who were not involved in the conflict. Following the siege of the attack on the village, Serbian forces reportedly expelled the Albanian civilian population and then burned all the village houses. He, according to the Special Prosecution Act, also participated in the prosecution of the civil population's property damage.

Lazovic, who lived in Leposaviq prior to his detention, pleaded innocent in the initial review held on December 4th, 2024.
