Russia killed Alexei Navajo using the frog toxin, Britain says

Two years after the death of Navajo in a Siberian criminal colony, Britain and its allies have blamed the Kremlin after testing samples of materials found in his body.

There is no innocent explanation for the toxin, called epibatidin, which was found in samples taken from the Navalny body, the Foreign Ministry said.

Speaking from the Security Conference in Munich, Great Britain Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said: “Only the Russian government had the means, motivation and opportunity to use this lethal toxin against Alexei Navajo during his imprisonment in Russia. ”

Cooper met with Navalny's widow, Yulia Navalnaya, at the conference this weekend.

“Russia saw the Navajo as a threat,” said Cooper in this event, the BBC reports.

“Using this form of poison, the Russian state demonstrated the disgusting means available and the overwhelming fears it has from the political opposition”, she added.

The United Kingdom has joined Sweden, France, the Netherlands, and Germany in accusing Russia of poisoning.

The Foreign Ministry said the United Kingdom has informed the Organisation for the Prevention of Chemical Arms for allegedly violating the Chemical Weapons Convention from Russia.

Navalny ʹa anti-corruption activist and the most vocal opposition leader in Russia suddenly died in prison on February 16, 2024, at the age of 47.

In 2020 he was poisoned with a Novichok nervous agent. He underwent treatment in Germany and was arrested at the airport after his return to Russia.

Before today's announcement, Navalny's wife, Yulia, had repeatedly argued that her husband was killed by poisoning while serving his prison sentence in a Arctic criminal colony in 2024.

In September last year, Yulia Navalnaya said that the analysis of biological samples smuggled into labs in two countries showed that her husband was <x0... killed”.

She did not elaborate on the poison allegedly used, on samples or on analysis, but challenged the two labs to publish their results.

By the time of his death, Navajo had been in prison for three years on fabricated charges and had recently been transferred to the Arctic Circle criminal colony.

According to Russian confessions, the 47-year-old took a short walk in his Siberian criminal colony, said it felt bad, then collapsed and never gained consciousness again.

Navalny's family confirmed later that political activist died later Friday.
