Over 45kg of gold seized in Pec IQMT and security institutions reveal serious violations in the precious metal market
Central Bank Supervisor Inspector (IQMT), in close co-ordination with the State Prosecutor in Pec, the Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Customs Unit Against Traffic, has today carried out a broad action of inspection among economic operators who trade valuable metals in the Pec region.
The purpose of this operation was to verify the legality of trade, the background of precious metals and respect of technical standards under legislation in effect in the Republic of Kosovo. During detailed field checks, market inspectors and officials of participating institutions in this action have recorded violations which have resulted in the following measures:
The IQMT provisional ban has found and banned an amount of over 20kg of gold, which was unverified and unsigned by the Kosovo Metrology Agency. This commodity will remain blocked until the completion of regular legal procedures.
The sequistation of precious metals during this action has been seized over 25kg of precious gold metals, for which economic subjects have failed to present the necessary documentation of their descent.
The Central Market Supervisor Inspectorate remains committed to protecting consumers and securing an equal and legal market.
Marketing precious metals without marking from the Kosovo Institute of Metrology, as well as without regular documentation, constitutes serious and punishable violations.
IQMT warns all economic operators that the controls will continue with high intensity throughout the territory of the Republic of Kosovo, and that to any irregularities, rigorous punishment measures will be taken under law enforcement. /Periscope
