Progress Rama: New Kosovo government is deliberately blocking capital's approved budget

In a Facebook response, Rama has said he is speaking not only as chairman but as representative of over 300 thousand citizens who, according to him, are being unjustly penalised.

Kosovo's new government is deliberately blocking the capital's approved budget. This is not a technical delay. Not an administrative misunderstanding. It is the political decision to weaken Pristina”, he said.

According to Rama, the capital's budget is voted in accordance with the law and constitutes Kosovo's official document, so any intervention to bypass or sabotage it, as he said, constitutes violations of institutional order.

He warned that the budget deadlock has direct consequences for citizens.

When Pristina's budget stops, school construction stops, infrastructure upgrades stop investing in nurserys, economic development stops. This is not a fight against the Mayor. This is collective punishment against citizens”, Rama said.

Pristina's chairman stressed that the capital is not the property of any political party and that it should not be used as a tool of political pressure. I will not allow the capital to be treated as an opponent. I will not allow Pristina citizens to pay the price of political calculations”, he said.

Rama warned that, if the government continues with the same approach, the Pristina municipality will pursue all legal and institutional ways to protect, as he said, its rights.

This is not a personal matter. This is a matter of institutional dignity and respect towards citizens. Pristina will not be silent. Pristina will not be afraid. And Pristina will not stop”, he concluded. /Periscope/
