Albania's Parliament Speaker, Niko Peleshi, attended the solemn reception on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Kosovo, conveying the most heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the Albanian Parliament and people. He named this date a historic moment of freedom, dignity and justice for the Albanian nation.
In his speech, Pelesh considered Kosovo's independence one of the greatest acts of modern national history, stressing that it represents the triumph of a people's right to live free, sovereign and independent after decades of oppression, discrimination and systematic violence. He praised the sacrifice and resistance of the people of Kosovo, as well as the crucial role of the Kosovo Liberation Army in realising this historic goal.
The Speaker of the Parliament stressed that, even though a new state, the Republic of Kosovo has become a democratic state and a factor of stability in the region, taking its place in the community of democratic countries. He also underlined the decisive support of the United States of America, NATO and the European Union, which lined up on the side of justice and freedom.
In this context, Peleshi expressed concern over the court processes against former liberation war leaders, stressing that justice to it is directly linked to the justice of Kosovo's own cause. He also reminded the February 13th Declaration of Albania's Parliament in support of Kosovo and its liberation war, naming this stance a moral, historical and national obligation.
Speaking of relations between Albania and Kosovo, the first of the Albanian Parliament underlined that they are brotherly relations and a strategic partnership based on history, sacrifices and shared aspirations for Euro-Atlantic integration. He stressed commitment to deepening interparliamentary co-operation and Albania's continued support for Kosovo's membership in the European Union, NATO and the Council of Europe.
Peleshi also noted the United States' strong and steadfast support for Kosovo, considering this an important guarantee for its future and the entire region.
In conclusion, he stressed that Kosovo's independence is a victory of freedom over oppression and a pride for the entire Albanian nation. He congratulated Kosovo institutions for success in fulfilling their responsibilities and reaffirmed Albania's commitment to supporting Kosovo on the path to Euro-Atlantic integration./Periscopi/
