Mute in the European Parliament: Kosovo authoritarianism alert, collapse of democratic freedoms

The deputy chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bessian Musmurati, has spoken to the European Parliament at a conference organised by the parliamentary group Renew Europe, where it has raised serious concerns about the authoritarian tendencies of recent governance in Kosovo.

In her address, Musmurat stressed the need for strict international monitoring, warning that a dangerous ruling thought is being installed in Kosovo that violates the foundations of the democratic state.

“In the European Parliament, I had the honour to speak at the conference organised by the parliamentary group Renew Europe,” said, adding that “raised the alarm for the necessity of strict monitoring of the last government's authoritarian tendencies.”

She stressed that one of the main problems is the minim of constitutional order, underlining that over 15 violations of the constitution have been recorded.

“With over 15 violations of the Constitution, the goal is clear to turn state institutions and enterprises into tools for the persecution of political opponents, media and civil society” declared Musmurati.

Speaking of media freedom, she warned of a sharp decline in democratic standards in this area. “Systemic attacks on journalists and media closure attempts have brought us down to the lowest historical levels, according to the reporters Without Borders,” She stressed.

Musmurati also raised concerns about pressure on the judiciary, calling it a direct blow to the rule of law. “Direct interventions and public links to prosecutors and judges are seriously violating the rule of law barShe expressed herself.
