Kosovo's “Assembly is currently discussing the RTK budget, which is projected to be approved in two readings on 19 February and 2026. According to the 2026 budget bill, parliament, based on the government's proposal, will allocate only 8.9m euros, which are only enough to cover basic operational needs, such as staff salaries”, says the communique.
A budget deficit of this scale would seriously damage the public broadcaster's ability to act independently and fulfill his mission to inform citizens of issues of public interest. If RTK received the budget which is legally due, it would allow him to act independently of any interference by the government and parliament, while simultaneously enabling investments and development of public broadcaster”, it is said further.
Before the expected budget decision, our organisations jointly ask the prime minister and the president of the Vetevendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, and Parliament Speaker Albulen Haxhiu to make sure that the public broadcaster receives sufficient and fair budgets in accordance with the law and that he does not submit to political pressure through budgetary constraints”, the report stresses. /Periscope
