Edi Rama urges Trump to react to Hashim Thaci's trial at The Hague: Let's do something for God's sake

Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama, in his address to the Peace Board meeting, has invited US President Donald Trump to act in terms of developments at the Special Court before it is late.

Rama has said that former Kosovo President Hashim Thaci was prevented from signing Washington's agreement by prosecutor Jack Smith, who also went after the US president himself.

The Albanian prime minister has further said that Thaci is already serving six years in prison of a court sponsored by several democratic states, which according to Rama they must be ashamed of such a kind of international justice.

Kosovo's “then was brutally prevented from travelling towards the White House to sign that agreement in the presence of President Trump. And this was the work of that same prosecutor “icario” who had gone after President Trump himself, and for that it became world famous”, Rama said, Express reported.

“Today, Kosovo's president has already spent six years in custody before a special court in The Hague, sponsored by several democratic states, some of them present here, which should be ashamed of this kind of international justice. Just last week, Mr. President, another prosecutor funded by this large country and its taxpayers demanded 45 years in prison for him -- a request that sent shocking waves of humiliation through a whole nation that demands peace”, Rama added.

At this moment, only a few months divide a man who was raised by resistance against ethnic cleansing to become peacemakers from a potentially devastating outcome in a court that has so far failed to respect the standards of democratic justice. For God's sake, Mr. President, let's do something before, as you say, very bad things happen again”, Rama has said.
