First day of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in Geneva ends

Russian and Ukrainian delegations have completed the first day of US-mediated peace talks in Geneva, a week before the fourth anniversary of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine by Moscow.

The leading Ukrainian negotiator Rustem Umerov said negotiations would continue in the Swiss town Wednesday morning, the BBC reported, broadcasting Expres newspaper.

Hopes for some progress during the last round of the third ] trilateral talks are slim, as the Kremlin has not been shaken by its maximum demands for Ukrainian territory.

Russian attacks in Ukraine continue every night, further damaging the country's already damaged electricity network, as temperatures below zero continue.

Just hours before delegations met in Geneva, Russia carried out a major combined air strike against Ukraine, hitting 12 regions with 400 fears and almost 30 rockets. At least three people were killed, Ukrainian officials said.

Russia, meanwhile, said its air defence had deterred more than 150 fears, while an oil refinery was engulfed in flames following a Ukrainian-monk attack. Periscope.
