A man in Munich has been sentenced to life imprisonment for attempted murder of his divorced wife, causing more than 20 stab wounds. Munich's Land Court found evidence that the 34-year-old stabbed the woman in broad daylight near a playground in April [...]

Munich's Land Court found testimony that the 34-year-old stabbed his wife in broad daylight near a playground in April 2025, in the presence of their son.

According to the court, the woman survived only because of an emergency operation of almost eight hours, despite life- threatening injuries to numerous organs.

presiding judge of the court, Elisabeth Ehrl, has said that as a jury, they have seen no reason to impose an easier sentence on the accused. Although 34-year-old had essentially accepted the attack, Ehrl, however, viewed his statement as a underestimation, writes dpa.de. It was absurd as she was providing the knife only as a means of intimidation. Instead, the court concluded that it was an attempt to commit a deliberate murder motivated by poor motives.

The decision is not yet legally binding. Both defence and prosecution have a week to appeal to the Federal Court of Justice.

The attack occurred just before the planned divorce session.

The court stated that the Kosovo man's motive was his unwillingness to accept his wife's desire to separate.

Moreover, he was angered by the fact that his wife, also Kosovar, had repeatedly reported repeated domestic violence against her, including during her pregnancy, traces albinfo.ch. The court also considered the fact that the joint apartment and custody of children would have gone to his wife in case of divorce as the motive for the attack, which took place two days before the planned divorce session.

. Judge Ehrl explained that the court sentenced him to life imprisonment despite his expressions of remorse, partly because the victim survived only because of the extraordinary work of doctors a miracle, as she said. The attack was carried out with a high degree of criminal intensity, and the woman continues to suffer severe physical and psychological consequences.

The fact that the man stabbed him in a playground in front of their son also played a role in the decision.

“Daddy, what have you done?”

Judge Ehrl asked the defendants to use his time in prison to reflect on the consequences of his actions. She pointed out that this involved not only his victim but also his son, who had to see his mother covered with blood.

During the trial, the defendant described how the moment he realized that his son was standing next to him and asking: “Daddy, what have you done? He said it touched him deeply.

After the attack, the man had called his mother, said: “Mbaroi”, and taken a picture of the injured woman. Only the cops, with the guns out, managed to force him to put down the knife.

Victims: Fear of ex-husband's Family

The testimony of the now divorced woman, who was presented as co-partner, took place in court via video connection and behind closed doors at her request. According to the prosecution, the ex-wife is still afraid of the defendant's family. So Judge Ehrl exhorted his relatives, who were in the courtroom to show compassion and leave their wife alone.
