Albanian MP's brother arrested, seized 50kg of cocaine in Italy

A 27-year-old Albanian, declared in search of cocaine trafficking across Europe, has been arrested in Rome, Italian media write. Markelian Hoti, brother of Democratic Party MP Elda Hoti, was detained in the area of Ponte di Nona, in the eastern suburb of the Italian capital, where he was hiding in a hotel with his girlfriend.
He allegedly had a key role in an organisation that trafficked cocaine from South America. The drug arrived at the port of Antwerp and was then transported in luxury cars from Northern Europe to Dubai.
After the seizure of 50 kilos of cocaine hidden in containers at the port of Antwerp, the MP's brother had disappeared.
In January, a European arrest warrant was issued for <x0 criminal trafficking narcotics organisation”, which envisions up to 15 years in prison.
The arrest took place after an investigation co-ordinated by the International Police Co-operation Service and the Antidroga team in Rome.
