Deceiters use “The display mirroring device in Whatsap”, a technique involving hackers who steal accounts and imitate people of WhatsApp to ask for money from contacts, reports Telegraph, broadcast Periscope.
Deception works this way: cybercriminals call through the instant message app by pretending to be a contact.
After dividing the screen, the affected receive a notice at the top of their screen: this is a text message from the Whatsapp app with their security code.
While they're sharing the screen, this code is visible to their conversationor, who will use it to steal the account, after which the hacker shuts down the app, making it impossible to access again.
In the following hours of the black screen, some of their contacts informed them that they were receiving messages from their account WhatsApp asking them to send money through Bizum urgently.
Incibe, the national cyber security institute in Spain, has issued a series of recommendations to help users maintain their safe accounts.
What if your account is stolen?
Warn your contacts to prevent them from falling prey to a fraud.
Try to reinstall the app to force them to get back a code.
Contact WhatApp's support in the transport contact [email protected] to ask for help.
If this too fails to recover the account, contact the %sApp Data Protection Official.
If you don't get an answer in a month, or if the answer is negative, report the incident to the authorities.
Contact your bank to inform them of what happened and to take appropriate measures.
How to Prevent Account Stealing
Configure double-step verification on your cell phone.
Never give or share the codes you receive, since they are personal and nontransferable. /Periscope/
