The Ukrainian Army's General Staff has provided a recent update on developments in the field of battle, with focus on the northern Sumy region, which borders Russia.
According to the official statement, military operations are currently under way in the Oleksivka and Yunakika areas, near the front lines in the northern part of the country.
Ukrainian forces report visible progress in North Slobozhansk, with an advance ranging from 1 to 2.5 kilometers in the previously controlled territory of the Russian forces.
The Sumy region is limited to Russia's Kursk region, an area where last year an unexpected Ukrainian offensive occurred, during which parts were temporarily seized by Kiev forces but later recovered from Moscow.
Since April, Russia has intensified its efforts in the area. President Vladimir Putin had warned of the creation of the so-called <x0 security zones” along the border to provide additional protection for Russian regions bordering Kharkiv, Sumy and Chernihiv. /Periscope
