These are delayed reciprocal fees that were announced in April. New tariffs for Serbia, as well as for a number of other countries, will take effect on 1 August.
Trump briefed Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq, as well as leaders of other countries, in a letter that the US will impose additional tariffs of 35 per cent for imports of goods from Serbia from August 1st.
Trump published the letter he sent to Vuciki and the leaders of other countries on his social network of Social Truth Social.
The US president said he was the highly honoured “who sent a letter showing commitment to US-Serbia trade relations and the fact that the US have agreed to continue working with Serbia, despite the considerable trade deficit between the two countries”, the telegraph reads.
He said there would be no tariffs if Serbia or Serbian companies decided to produce in the US, and stressed that tariffs would increase if Belgrade decided to retaliate by introducing additional tariffs for US imports.
In early April, when Trump first raised the issue, the tariffs for imports from Serbia were 37 per cent, but last night was announced they would continue to be 35 per cent.
He also sent a letter to Zelko Cvianovic, who is chairman of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency, that the tariff for imports of goods from Bosnia and Herzegovina would be 30 per cent.
Otherwise Trump announced rates of 25 per cent for Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and Kazakhstan, 30 per cent for South Africa, 32 per cent for Indonesia, 35 per cent for Bangladesh, 36 per cent for Cambodia and Thailand, and 40 per cent for Laos and Myanmar. /Periscopi/
