The KLA war veterans' organisation has reacted to the judicial decision, for convicting the ten of the accused in the case known as “Venters”.
The deputy head of this organisation, Gazmend Syla, has said OVL- The KLA has closely followed today's decision and adds that this organisation has always been against the involvement of unworthy persons on veterans' lists.
According to Syla, defending the status of true fighters is a principle issue for OVL-KLA.
And Syla points out that it seems completely pointless that the court simultaneously condemns the veterans' verification commission, and then tells the government “re-renew 19.500 persons”.
“We have serious doubts that this incumbent government has legal or political competence to undertake such an important and sensitive process. Evental revision of the lists should be done with extraordinary care, with strong legal and moral guarantees, and by all means unilaterally or politically”, Syla told the KP.
Today, the Constitutional Court in Pristina has found ten of the accused guilty in the case known as “Veterians”, while releasing from the indictment Nuredin Lushtaku and Smajl Elesaj, since according to the court they did not have the quality of the official person.
Agim Ceku, Sadik Halistiha, Shumbin Demaliaj, Cele Gashi, Shukri Buja, Ahmet Daku, Rrustem Berisha, Faik Fazliou, Fadil Shudreaj and Xhavit Jashar were found guilty of actions contrary to the law, and with rules defined by the Government Commission for the recognition and Verification of the Status of the KLA Veterans, enabling other persons to illegally benefit veteran status.
They were sentenced to one year in prison, which must be executed within 15 days of the verdict's proclamation. The court consisted of Gazmend Bahtiri (head) and members Arrini of Shyti Confront, while the indictment was represented by prosecutor Valdet Gashi.
The chairman of the panel, Gazmend Bahtiri, said the Kosovo government is obliged to establish new commissions within a year to review the list of applicant persons for veteran-war status, the list of 19,500 people.
The court said the government, after completing the review of applications for veteran-military status, should declare the validity of the status./Periscopi/
