Diplomatic fraud with Ruby's voice: AI is used to contact senior officials

A fraud who has been forged as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has contacted foreign ministers, an American governor and a member of Congress, using voice and message created through artificial intelligence. The case was made public through an internal state department cablegram published by The Washington Post. Authorities [...]
American authorities do not yet know the identity of the author of this fraud, but believe the goal is to deceive officials into gaining access to sensitive information or personal accounts. Messages have been sent through an app coded Signal and via SMS, using a fraudulent user name: “Marko. [email protected]”
According to the document, the incident began in mid-June and has included at least five important people -- three foreign ministers of partner countries, an American governor and a lawmaker in Congress. In some cases, the deceiver has even left voice messages with Ruby's voice created through the AI, a method that is increasingly being used in cyber-missive campaigns.
State Department officials have called on diplomats and institutions to report any similar efforts to the Bureau for Diplomatic Security or the FBI. This incident comes a few months after other important figures in the US, including White House cabinet chief Susie Wiles, have been the target of attacks similar to false voices.
Digital security experts warn that voice imitation technologies have become easy to use, and officials should be more cautious in using unauthorized platforms for official communication.
The FBI has warned earlier that these campaigns are aimed at cheating, stealing money, or spreading viruses into institutions' computer systems./Periscopi/
