President Vjosa Osmani delivered a speech yesterday to students of “Sophia University” in Tokyo, about the importance of protecting democracy.
It has also talked about the recent war in Kosovo and the sacrifices made to develop teaching under the Serbian regime.
Yesterday we marked the Day of Liberalisation of Kosovo and it was the 26th anniversary of our liberalisation, a day of profound importance for the people of our country. It is the day when our long call for freedom was finally answered after centuries of sacrifice”.
I was born and raised under a regime that then led to a terrible genocide war against the people of Kosovo. During my childhood, I was a witness, and I lived in a system that tried to wipe out our identity, silence our voice, wipe out our existence and wipe us out. Schools closed us, teachers also left schools, children were not accustomed to dreaming, but to fearing”, Osmani said.
