Meta announced on Monday that businesses will now be able to show so-called status ads in Whatsapp, which encourage users to interact with advertisers through the features of app messages.
The ads will only appear users inside the “Update” of Whatsapp, to share promotions from people's personal conversations, it transmits Telegrafi.
In addition, Meta will start making money from the feature of the Government Channels through research and subscriptions advertising.
Gasing advertising on the message app represents an important step in Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's plans to make the WhatsApp “the next Capitol” in his company's history, as he told Jim CNBC in 2022.
The move to earn money from WhatsApp also comes amid the high-profile Meta antitrust issue with the Federal Trade Commission, on large purchases of the mail app company and Instagram.
Currently, Meta allows advertisers to display ads called “klicon to send a 48x1> to Facebook and Instagram that direct users to whatsApp where they can directly engage in businesses.
Messages between brands and consumers “should be the next pillar of our business”, Zuckerberg told analysts in April, adding that whatsApp now has over 3 billion monthly users, including “more than 100 million people in the US and rapidly growing there”.
Now, companies can show these kinds of ads inside themselves whatsapp. New status ads appear in User Update Tabs within “station” of that scheme that can be used to divide photographs, videos, and text that disappear after 24 hours, similar to Instagram Stories.
Since Meta bought whatsapp in 2014, the popular message app has continued to rise worldwide. But unlike Facebook, Instagrams and recently Thrads, whatsapp has never allowed advertising.
The cofounders of Whatsapp, Jan Koum and Brian Acton publicly expressed their contempt for the advertising industry, and the pair left Facebook after reportedly ran into leaders eager to fill the app with ads and other practices they avoided.
The social media company does not reveal specific sales of Whatsapp, but analysts have previously estimated that app revenues are between $500 million and $1 billion from billing businesses for tools and services so that they can send messages to customers on apps.
Meta will use very basic “information to recommend which ads to show the users of Whatsapp, Nikila Srinivasan, the Meta product's director for business messages, said on Friday.
This includes one's country, city, equipment, language, and data, such as whom he follows or interacts with advertising.
The company debuted Whatsapp Update Tabs in June 2023 along with an accompanying feature of Canals, which allows people and organisations to send messages and updates to their followers instead of personal conversations. Meta will also earn money from the Canal feature, the company said on Monday.
