The first reports appeared on June 3rd, when some users noticed that Chrome was repeatedly closed or not even opened.

Microsoft's Family Security error specifically affects Chrome, preventing it from operating in Windows.

Our “Ekip investigated these reports and identified the cause of this behavior”, says Chrome support manager Ellen T.

“For some users, Chrome cannot be opened while Microsoft's Family Security is enabled”, Ellen T added, forwards the telegraph.

Other browsers, such as Firefox or Opera, do not seem to be affected by this problem, and some users have even found out that the Chrome.exe file is in Chrome1.exe allows them to solve the problem.

Schools or parents who use Family Security as part of a subscription to Microsoft 365 can also disable the “option view inappropriate internet sites” in Family Security Citation to make Chrome function again, but this would allow children to access every web site without restrictions.

It is not known when Microsoft will fix the problem, which has been going on for more than two weeks.

“We haven't heard anything from Microsoft about an overhaul”, a Chromium engineer wrote in a error tracker 10 June.

“They have instructed users who contact them to restart Chrome, but I don't think this will have any major effect”, the engineer added.

Microsoft has the habit of making strange moves in Windows to discourage people from using Chrome.

While this problem with Family Safety is likely an harmless mistake, Microsoft has previously used pop-up, AI's false response, malware-like warnings, and even integrated surveys on Google's download page to try to make users switch to its Edge browser.

Earlier this year, Microsoft even used Bing to trick users into thinking they were on Google. /Periscope/
