Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq left 7 May towards Moscow, where he will participate in the Red Square Victory Parade. His plane, on its journey to the Russian capital, was initially stopped in Azerbaijan's capital, Baku, Serbia's Radio Television reports, referring to the Tanjug agency.
According to the RTS, the plane Vucinqi is traveling with, then it continued on its flight to Moscow.
According to Kremlin, a bilateral meeting between Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, and Russia's President Vladimir Putin, RTS, reported on May 9th.
In early March, Vuciq announced he would participate in the military parade on the occasion of Victory Against Fascism, following a telephone conversation with Putin.
Russia on 9 May marks the 80th anniversary of victory over Fascism in World War II with a military parade at the Red Square in Moscow, as well as a host of other activities.
Warnings about the Serbian president's trip to Russia have sparked reactions from European institutions as well.
European Union Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos said on April 29th at a media conference that “is in the hands of Serbia's president to decide on moving to Moscow”, but added that if Vuciq goes there, it would have “more difficult to help Serbia stay committed on the European path”.
Of the European leaders, only Vuciq and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico - known for his connections to the Kremlin - they have confirmed the turnout.
Milorad Dodik, president of the entity Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina, has also warned participation in Moscow.
China's president, Xi Jinping, will also travel to Russia.
According to Russian state agency RIA Novosti, participation in the May 9th parade has confirmed the presidents of Belarus, Alayksander Lucashenka, Kazakhstan, Qasim-Zhomart Tokayev, Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, Venezuela, Nicholas Maduro, and Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
