Existing Skype users can “migrate” to Microsoft Teams (freely) with their Skype credentials, contacts and the history of conversations automatically transferred to the new platform, Telegrafi conveys.
Also, Skype users can export their data by January 2026, after which they will be permanently deleted.
Microsoft's official rationale for Skype's closure is “improving our free communication bids for consumers so that we can adjust more easily to the needs of clients”.
