Prosecutors react to Donika Gervalles' statements: Respect power sharing, do not intervene in justice

The Kosovo Prosecutors' Association has reacted with concern to recent public statements by political subject representatives Guxo and several Kosovo government officials, who have commented on the special prosecutor's actions regarding the investigation into the incumbent minister, Faton Peci, and his interview. The Society considers it unacceptable [...]
The association considers the deignive language and public charges directed at Special Prosecutor Chief Prosecutor Blerim Isufaj unacceptable, as well as the prosecutor of the case, Admir Shala.
“Procurators of the Republic of Kosovo, including those of the Special Prosecutor, act in full accordance with the Constitution, the laws in power and evidence resulting from investigations. Political charges, attempts at personal discreditment and mention of previous party affiliations cannot and dare not be used as a means to influence prosecutors' decision making or integrity”, it says in response.
The association has called on all public acts to respect the institutional independence of the prosecutorial system and refrain from any declaration that could be interpreted as direct or indirect pressure on prosecutors' work.
The Kosovo Prosecutors' Association will continue to be guarantor of each prosecutor's independence in the Republic of Kosovo, supporting those acting in integrity, professionalism and in the interest of fair law enforcement, without fear and without favour of”, the response concludes.
Remember, Deputy Prime Minister and acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Donika Grovalla had reacted sharply after the Special Prosecutor's Action that included incumbent Agriculture Minister Faton Peci.
Through a Facebook post, Gervala named the intervention a “in exuberance” led by prosecutor Blerim Isufaj. It strongly defended Minister Peci, who called “the most exemplary minister of this mandate”.
According to her, the prosecution's move is nothing more than a “ugliest act against Minister Peci's commitment to the fight against corruption.
When exactly those responsible for protecting the rule of law and the citizens of the Republic from crime misuse justice organs for revenge and tarnishing successful and clean political figures, then nothing should ever again be surprising,” wrote Gervala. /Periscope/
