(a year ago)Pope Leo XIV, newly elected on St. Peter's throne, made his first official trip out of Rome today, sending a clear signal to the continuation of his predecessor's spiritual heritage, Pope Francis, as well as devotion to the challenges of modern times. The journey included a symbolic stop in St. Mary's....
The trip included a symbolic stop at Saint of Goodness at Genazzano, a holy place closely associated with the Order of St. Augustus, of which the Pope himself is part.
He prayed for guidance at the beginning of his papacy and greeted believers who had come to meet him.
In return, he stopped at the Basilica of St. Great Mary to honour the tomb of Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21st. With a white flower in his hand and a silent prayer, Pope Leo XIV showed spiritual continuity with his predecessor.
During his first audience with the cardinals, Pope Leo XIV stressed the importance of continuing reforms launched by Pope Francisescu, including interreligious dialogue and social justice. One of the strongest highlights was the warning of ethical challenges that bring artificial intelligence, naming it one of mankind's greatest trials in decades to come.
Meanwhile, Prince Edward will represent King Charles at the official inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo XIV, which is expected to be held next week at the Vatican.
