PDK: Kurti government is guaranteeing millions of KEDS, KESCO, NOA and GEN governments at the expense of citizens

Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Ferat Shala has raised concern over rising electricity prices for Kosovo citizens within a term of Kurti Government.

Shala, at a media conference, said that this increase is selective and discriminated against because it directly hits Albanian consumers, while the government's former opposition rhetoric promised drastic price cuts and a return to public control.

We have a harmful reality, where instead of public control, we have guaranteed profits for private KEDS, KESCO, NOA and GEN companies, while ordinary citizens pay more and more. The government, instead of defending public interest, has become lobby and supporters of corrupt relatives. Today we have within the territory of the Republic energy markets on ethnic grounds. Today we have monopolizing over 90 %s of energy import from GEN and NOA. Today we import electricity at a price of 100 % more expensive than international stock exchanges. Today businesses that are expected to go out on the free market have received bids at 22.5% more expensive than the current stock market price. Today many businesses are closing down or leaving outside Kosovo, see the Fernikli case. Today we have a drastic decline in production in KEK, the entire policy of this corporation is in favour of private energy importing companies”, he stressed.

Shala said that in this scheme of systematic failure, COSTT and ZRRE are part of this scheme, which indisputedly has guaranteed continued price increases and has become government spokespersons and defence barricades in the past, covering in silence even large corrupt relatives, as is the case with Z monitoring report. Shala has called on justice bodies to thoroughly investigate every segment of the energy sector.

The new Parliamentary Framework will be used to review any action and inaction in energy sector management. Like the PDK, we will be a strong voice in the defence of civic interest, in every instance, and at any forum”, it has ended.
