The European Parliament has adopted a strong resolution for Serbia, urging Serbian authorities to immediately prevent discrimination against national minorities, including Albanians and the Presevo Valley.
Former head of the Albanian National Council, Ragmi Mustaf, in a Facebook response, called this resolution “an alarm cable that cannot be ignored in “, adding that “Europe is openly telling Belgrade: quite with the face of minority rights”.
The resolution stresses that the protection Serbia claims to offer minorities is only formal and that their representation is “under government control”. According to Mustaf, this represents a “brought together democracy”.
“The EP condemns abuse of national identities to sow divisions and hate speech against minorities. Like, Serbia's delay in drafting the plan for minority rights shows a lack of will.
While at the 46th point highlights the lack of full security and representation of minorities at all levels of governance, preservation of cultural identity through the use of relevant languages and the use of educational needs, as well as ensuring freedom of expression and access to information”, Mustafi has written.
He adds that at 38th point, The EP requires equal access to the media for all communities” and calls on Serbian authorities “to expand the availability of public broadcasting services in all minority languages across the country”.
Mustaf wraps up his reaction with a clear call: Serbia must urgently implement EP recommendations! Especially full rights for Albanians and other minorities!”
