In a post on his X platform, the world's richest man thanked Trump for the opportunity to run the newly established Government Efficiency Office, known with the DOGE acronym.
According to the BBC, the White House began the formal process of leaving him from the post of “special government employee”, which allowed him to perform federal work until 130 days a year.
Musk's position was temporary and his departure was expected, but the time is important because it comes a day after he publicly criticised a major legislative project of the Trump administration.
“While my mandate as special government employee expires, I would like to thank President Trump for the possibility of reducing unnecessary spending”, Musk wrote on X.
The DOGE mission will only become stronger over time, while becoming a way of life throughout the entire government”, he added.

Musk said he was disappointed with Trump's budget proposal, which includes several trillion dollar tax cuts and increased military spending.
In an interview with CBS, he said that the so-called beautiful, big “law”, as Trump calls it, will increase the budget deficit and undermine DOGE's work./Periscopi/
