Germany's Ambassador to Albania, Carl Berger, has commented on the performance of the election process that has started this Sunday in the country. He has indicated that, from what he has personally ascertained as field observers, the process is being carried out in a calm and normal manner.
I was at a school in Durres, where electronic voting is being voted. This is a system that may take little time to get used to it, but it brings more accurate and fair results,” Ambassador Berger told Euronews.
He stressed the importance these elections have for Albania's European perspective, naming it an important test for democratic standards and progress towards integration into the European Union.
The transparent elections will be a solid test for the integration path. Foreign observers, among whom there are many Germans, are also interested in the transparency of the process being high,”, he said, adding that he will not make final comments until the process is closed.
The ambassador called on citizens for high voter turnout.
I call on all citizens to use this day to cast their vote. The turnout we have observed so far has been high, and I think that every Albanian will benefit from these elections,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of voting as an act of responsibility for the future: “Even if you are unhappy with the current options, you should vote, it is a way of not rejecting the chance for the country, for the future of your family and children. ”/Periscopi/
