Kosovo's dramatic decline for 24 countries in the Media Freedom Index by Reporters Without Borders poses a serious alarm for the state of democracy and the right to information in the country. From a 75th position in 2024 to a 99th position this year, Kosovo is slipping towards a terrain where journalists' free voice and institutional transparency are being affected every day.
This decline is not just a statistic, it reflects concrete restrictions, constant pressure on journalists, as well as offensive attacks on labels that are deeply damaging the media environment.
The destructiveness, often amounting to self-destruct, has become the constant party-state that leads the country for five years now.
