In his opening address, KFOR mission commander Lieutenant General Enrico Bardoni stressed that this event brings together key international and regional actors to strengthen dialogue on peace and security.
He also underlined the essential role of women in various areas, adding that women are key in promoting a diversity of prospects in dialogue, preventing crises and resolving conflicts.
“in its key security role, KFOR is proud to strengthen the critical contribution of women to strengthening regional co-operation through an impartial and inclusive approach”, KFOR Commander stressed.
The distinguished guests contributed to tonight's session work. Secretary General's Special Representative and Head of the UN Administration's Acting Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), Ambassador Caroline Z. The IADEH, the origin of the UN's Resolution 1325, and the UN's best practices for its implementation, reminisceded in memory.
Former Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga highlighted the role of women in crisis environments and presented several personal experiences, as founder of the JAHJAGA Foundation, which since 2018 is committed to empowering marginalised communities, promoting interethnic reconciliation and avocation for social justice, the KP broadcasts.
Lieutenant General Athanassios GARINIS, commander of NATO's Fast Corps in Greece, co-organizer of the event, spoke of the important role of women in the troops of this Corps. Finally, NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security, Mrs. Irene F. ELIN, he spoke through video conference.
It conveyed the greetings and gratitude of NATO Secretary General Mark RUTE, for this important initiative of KFOR, added: “Learning from past wars and crises, and the ongoing ones remind us of the urgency of implementing the Agency for Women, Peace and Security. Political, institutional, and communitarian leaders each have a role in promoting this transforming change”.
NATO Secretary General for Women, Peace and Security's Special Representative serves as the top high-level point for NATO's work in this area.
The event is held tomorrow, and marks the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, Peace and Security.
